Founder and editor of Save on Energy Bills

Chris writes about UK energy bills, energy tariffs and practical ways households can reduce what they spend on energy.

Why I started Save on Energy Bills

I didn’t always pay much attention to my energy bills. Like a lot of households, they were just another direct debit ticking away in the background.

When energy prices started rising sharply, I began looking much more closely at what I was actually paying for, how energy tariffs worked and what I could realistically do to bring those costs down.

The more I learned, the more I realised that reducing an energy bill isn’t just about switching supplier. It can mean understanding how you’re charged, cutting unnecessary energy use, improving your home and choosing a tariff that better suits the way you use energy.

Save on Energy Bills was created to make that process easier to understand, with straightforward guides and tools that help households work out what is actually worth doing.

What I write about

  • Understanding energy bills and charges
  • Gas and electricity tariffs
  • Octopus Energy tariffs and features
  • Reducing energy waste
  • Solar panels and home batteries
  • Heat pumps and other home energy upgrades

How I approach our guides

Guides on Save on Energy Bills are written to answer the questions people are likely to have before making a decision. Tariff information is checked against supplier information and published rates, while our calculators and tools explain the assumptions behind their results.

The aim is to make complicated energy topics easier to understand without pretending there is one right answer for every household.
